What are the problems that eBay is currently facing? How is eBay trying to solve these problems? Are these correct solutions? Are there any other solutions that eBay should consider?

Problems faced by ebay are as follows:

1.) Secure payment transfer mechanism, various forgery has been identified and recorded
2.) Reliability of the retailers posting their products
3.) Reliability of purchasers for the transfer of payment, also some customers threaten the seller to deliver the products with some few additives against posting some negative feedback for the product

Do you think a critical mass of seller needed in order for a company like eBay to survive? What steps should eBay take to ensure this critical mass?

Yes certainly ebay require a separate set of mass which believe in online trading, as majority of people believe in purchasing after touch and feeling, also they doubt transferring the money online and afraid of frauds happening online. No doubt the percentage of people interested and believing in online trading are increasing.

 Ebay should ensure the increase in such mass of people by following steps as under:

1.) Should advertise for the remakeover services like rating for vehicles being sold on ebay motors
2.) Assisstance to sellers and purchaser both for the secured transfer of money
3.) Should advertise usage of efficient and secure online payment transfer mechanism and assisstance and collaboration with Visa and MasterCard

There is a lot of skepticism out over the world that whether eBay will be able to monetize voice traffic called Skype. What type of risk you see by adding the communication function to eBay?

Yes ebay will be able to and will certainly monetize voice traffic using skype. The Internet users are increasing exponentially over the world ands internet market in penetraitng deeper and deeper in people's daily lifes.
Risks in relation to the addition of voice traffice on ebay can be as follows:

1.) Duplication and modification of voice bits can be done, so trhey must ensure that the voice bits should be transferred using encryption only
2.) Customers are required to have a faster internet connectivity to avail the service, as most services available in developing countries like India, Vietnam, Kenya, Thailand, etc are not so fast

Suggest few secured e-payment mechanism to retailers for minimizing various risks mentioned in the case

Few mechanisms can be as follows:

1.) Should collaborate with Visa, Master Card and other crediting agencies to monitor and verify the online transactions for reliability of the information provided
2.) Should ensure the verificatrion of the provided information to the server

Will eBay be successful in the long run? Why or why not?

According to my views and understanding of the case, ebay will be successful in long run. Points supporting the statement are as follows:

1.) ebay is working on a innovative concept of selling the used and new products on a very attractive prices
2.) ebay is providing a platform to set up stores online with minimal expenses and maximum traffic to your store
3.) ebay is moving towards more secure fund transfer system, there progress is shown by purchase of http://www.paypal.com/
4.) People had purchased so many products and there is a crucial demand for used products at reasonable prices by Middle class and lower middle class people and ebay certain;y is providing a platform to facilitate the process
5.) Online market is developing across the world as it provides cheapest products by the elemination of mediators in between products from manufacturing to customers
6.) ebay is moving towards rating agency for the used products to increase the reliability of the products offered on the website and also the gurantee mechanism for most of the products available as they have done for the ebay motors
